The Hawaiian Bible is a critical document in the history of the Hawaiian people. From a sociological standpoint, the translation of the Bible into the Hawaiian language marked the irreversible collision of an insulated native culture with the influences of the Western world. American missionaries came to Hawaii and brought the Christian faith along with many other influences. The islands and the Hawaiian people would be forever altered. An important part of the 19th Century history of Hawaii can be told through the development of the Christian faith in the islands including the translation and publishing the Bible in the Hawaiian language.
